To prepare for this event, over 90% of gently used formal gowns were donated from local cleaners, sororities, citizens, and members of the church.
Cinderella’s Closet is an event that happens one weekend in the spring, designed to provide dresses, footwear, jewelry, and a crown of confidence to young females who may not be able to afford prom.
Originating 2006 in Lakeside Park, KY at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Cinderella’s Closet has grown to over 18 churches within 10 states, which include: Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
“This is our 6th event, and it has grown exponentially since the first year we did it, we did about 14 girls the first year and this year we will probably serve over 80,” says Patsy Smith of Christ United Methodist Church.
This event was filled with the right ingredients to make the perfect princess: treats, music, gowns, bling, and a “fairy godmother” to guide her along the way. With over 50 volunteers serving this year, all hands were on deck to make this experience magical.
Although dates are not confirmed, there will be a 7th Cinderella’s Closet event held spring 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church.
